Our visit to Well Manor Farm

Way back in November, at the Weald and Downland  Christmas Fair, two of us took a break from our stall and toured around the other exhibitors.  We came across the little grey sheep  AT WELL MANOR FARM and were instantly fascinated by what was being demonstrated.  We loved the wool – but quickly realised that this was the end result of a long journey.  When we discovered that it was possible to visit the farm we decided this was a “have to” for the Zero Nine Group.

We were so lucky with the weather, which was glorious, and after a pub lunch at the nearby Checkers, we arrived to be given a most interesting tour, explaining the hazardous journey, from starting off with Southdowns sheep, and nor cross breeding the Shetland breed with Galloways, in order to get a soft fleece for spinning. so much thought and care has gone into ensuring clean fleeces.

Inevitably after such an interesting tour, we were tempted in the shop and hope to try out some of the wool in a felting session. For more images see Past Events
